Louise Bradenhorst, the mother of a daughter with Down syndrome, shares her experience with inclusion and exclusion of her daughter in education. These personal stories from children and their families about inclusive education provide a better understanding of the work being done in South Africa. They also offer an added-value in understanding what inclusive education exactly means.

 

Belgium learns from South Africa... and vice versa

From 24 to 28 October 2016, a South African delegation of education experts visited Belgium for an in-depth exchange on inclusive education. During the visit, the delegation met various actors in the Belgian education field, resulting in a wide variety of mutual inspiring learning experiences. Everyone agreed on one thing: the question is not whether education should be inclusive, but how we can make education as inclusive as possible. Moreover, it becomes clear that inclusion must be embedded in a broader policy on diversity. Our backpack with tips for equity in education has become heavier again.
