YES (Youth Empowerment Surinam) wants to make an accessible and effective contribution to the development of the youth in Surinam and increase their chances of success in education and the society.  To achieve this, YES offers trainings, workshops and coaching trajectories. Focus is on the development of a positive self image that enable the young people to discover their talents and fully participate in the society. 

The target group is the youth of Surinam, but they address mainly youth between 15 and 20 years who face multiple challenges due to their socio-economic background. 

YES is one of the partners of VVOB in the implementation of the iGrow-programme. In their trainings they worked with students from lower vocational education on complex topics such as gender-based violence and sexual reproductive health and rights.

YES uses several methods adapted to the learning levels and age of the participants. They also use principles of intense and interactive learning:

  • Conflicts management: Looking at conflict in a new way. Conflicts can transform to build better relationships.
  • Behavioural patterns: Gain insight into your own behaviour and be able to make conscious choices.
  • Communication: Become aware of different types of communication. Learn how to formulate your opinion and experience new ways of listening.
